What is a 3mm haircut?
Being bald is pretty self-explanatory, but what exactly does 3mm hair look like? This hairstyle is a nice compromise between going completely topless and being short. The 3mm haircut reveals your head shape as much as possible, but still indicates enough hair so that you don’t feel completely naked on your head.
Therefore, the so-called buzz cut is a good experiment for anyone who is thinking about going bald but finds the complete bare head to be a bit too abrupt.
The 3mm hair leaves a little color on your head so that you can get used to the almost hairless picture in peace. If you want to shave a bald head or a 3mm cut because your receding hairline stretches further than you would like, the buzz cut is a good way to have a neat hairstyle despite the light headgear.
Stars show it – 3mm hair suits everyone
Was it because of the pandemic and the desire for an uncomplicated look or just because 3mm hair looks casual and cool? This is probably where opinions differ – in any case, the buzz cut has been a trend hairstyle since summer 2021.
Numerous stars such as David Beckham, Kristen Stewart, Tom Hardy, Cara Delevingne and Justin Timberlake have opted for the buzz cut, showing how attractive the hairstyle looks regardless of gender.
It accentuates the features of the face and even makes them appear more symmetrical since hair no longer covers parts of the face. A symmetrical face is considered particularly appealing, which is why the 3mm haircut can not only give you a new look but also make you even more attractive (not that you need it, beauty!).
In addition to its appearance, the buzz cut naturally has many other advantages. Gone are the days of time-consuming styling with gel, hairspray and mousse. Gone are the days of leaving the house with the perfect hairdo only to look like you just crawled out of bed after the first gust of wind.
Gone are the days when your hair takes forever to dry after a shower and you hide it under a hat in the winter that’s supposed to keep you warm but in fact somehow makes it worse.
Admittedly, you have to trim your 3mm haircut regularly. But with a little practice, this can be done very quickly and saves you a lot of time in the bathroom (and even the need for a brush).
Bald or 3mm – which haircut is the better choice?
To anticipate the answer: You can wear whatever you want and look your best when you feel good! The question of baldness or 3mm arises for everyone who is thinking about a minimalist haircut, either because of hair loss or simply because it looks really good.
I myself am bald, with which I am extremely satisfied and for which I have already received a few compliments. Nevertheless, I think that 3mm hair builds up a lower inhibition threshold. You still feel somewhat covered and can either leave it at the buzz cut or use it to get closer to a bald head.
Numerous forums recommend that people with severe hair loss should shave their bald head straight away because there is not much hair left anyway. In my opinion, it’s not quite that simple. In most cases, anyone who has had medium-length or long hair throughout their life cannot simply part with it – yes, even if it has largely disappeared by itself. That’s why I’m of the opinion here too: listen to your gut feeling and do what feels right for you. Prince William shows how good the result can look.
So – don’t be afraid to take it easy and get a 3mm haircut first. After all, it’s always shorter. But if you’re impatient and want to venture straight into complete freedom on your head, I say: Have courage and go bald!
How to do a 3mm haircut?
A real razor is not used for your new 3mm haircut , but a hair clipper. This has the advantage that you can do without shaving foam, shaving gel, pre- and aftershave. To get 3mm hair, you need an attachment, because the shaving head itself usually cuts too short.
You can easily set the attachment to 3mm and you’re ready to go. Just make sure that the battery is charged beforehand, so not in the middle of the hair cutting process nasty surprise is waiting for you. Now cut your hair until it is evenly short.
Especially at the beginning, another person can help to check whether everything is actually gone at the back of the head. Feel again with your hand over your head to see if small islands have remained. At the end you put some water on your head to get rid of the cut off hair and tadaaa – your first 3mm haircut is done.
